1072 Society
The 1072 Society exists to facilitate the growth of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art’s permanent collections and to build upon the bold commitment of those visionaries who began the collection more than sixty years ago. The support of our members and friends is essential to build our collections as part of our future growth. Members of the 1072 Society contribute $1072, the amount originally paid for the 36 works in our Advancing American Art collection.
With the funds raised in 2009 through the 1072 Society memberships, the museum was able to purchase two rare etchings by American artist John Sloan (1905–1949), entitled The Women’s Page, 1905, and Night Windows, 1910; along with a very large (95 ¾ x 48 inches) color etching with aquatint by Robert Stackhouse (American, born 1942), Approaching Diviner, published in 1992. (show at least one image of the above)
We look forward with excitement to next fall when we will assemble another selection of art to be considered for acquisition to the museum’s permanent collection. And we encourage you to become a member of next year’s 1072 Society of 2010.
