Hypertufa Demonstration featuring visual artist Greg Brown
July 11, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Montgomery-based visual artist, author and Auburn alumnus Greg Brown will conduct a hypertufa demonstration July 11, 5–6 p.m., at the Jule Collins Museum of Fine Art. The artist’s demonstration will detail the process of mixing and carving hypertufa, a substance created from a combination of Portland cement, perlite and peat.
The mixture—ideal for creating lightweight and durable art—is the medium for Greg Brown’s eclectic series of decorative masks currently on display in the exhibition “Creative Cadences: Works of Roger and Greg Brown,” featuring a diverse collection of art from Greg and his brother, Roger. Attendees of the artist’s demonstration are encouraged to explore the exhibition, on view through Nov. 3 in the Bill L. Harbert Gallery and Gallery C as part of the AL200 celebration of Alabama’s cultural heritage. The hypertufa demonstration and the exhibition are both free and open to the public. A recommended donation of $5 is appreciated.
