A new lineup of visiting poets to our area is slated for the 2017 spring installment of the Third Thursday Poetry Series. James Davis May is the author of Unquiet Things, which was published by Louisiana State University Press in 2016. His poems have appeared in The Missouri Review, The New Republic, New England Review, The Southern Review, and elsewhere. The winner of the Poetry Society of America’s Cecil Hemley Memorial Award, he lives in the Georgia mountains with his wife, the poet Chelsea Rathburn.

Phillip B. Williams is a Chicago, IL native. He is the author of Thief in the Interior (Alice James Books). He is currently the Creative Writing Fellow in Poetry at Emory University and will be a visiting professor of creative writing at Bennington College for 2016-17 school year. Phillip is coeditor-in-chief of the online journal Vinyl.

Marci Calabretta Cancio-Bello is the author of Hour of the Ox, which won the 2015 AWP Donald Hall Prize for Poetry, and Last Train to the Midnight Market (2013). The recipient of a Kundiman and Knight Foundation poetry fellowship and two Academy of American Poets Prizes, she holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and Florida International University. Her work has appeared in Best New Poets 2015, Columbia: A Journal of Literature & Art, Los Angeles Review of Books Quarterly, and more. She serves as co-founding editor for Print-Oriented Bastards, producer for The Working Poet Radio Show, and a program coordinator for Miami Book Fair.

Sandra Beasley is the author of three poetry collections including Count the Waves, which was published by W. W. Norton in 2015. She won the 2009 Barnard Women Poets Prize for I Was the Jukebox, and the 2007 New Issues Poetry Prize for Theories of Falling. Her poetry has appeared in Poetry, AGNI, Blackbird, and Virginia Quarterly Review, and was chosen for The Best American Poetry 2010, as well as several other anthologies.
Beasley is the recipient of a 2015 Literature Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2013, she served as the Distinguished Writer at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA, and the Writer in Residence at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. Other honors include the Center for Book Arts Chapbook Prize, a University of Mississippi Summer Poet in Residence position, two DCCAH Artist Fellowships, and the Maureen Egen Exchange Award from Poets & Writers. She has received fellowships to the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Millay Colony, VCCA, and Vermont Studio Center.
Her nonfiction has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, and The Oxford American. In 2011, Crown published Don’t Kill the Birthday Girl: Tales From an Allergic Life, her memoir and a cultural history of food allergies. Beasley teaches with the University of Tampa low-residency MFA program and lives in Washington, D.C.
