Kai Garner (8th Grade, Auburn Junior High School)

Honorable Mention

Artist Statement

I like to do more of design and patterns, or I also like to look at something and try to replicate it which is what I am best at.

Winning Artwork

My submission is about all lives matter. I drew fist to represent all races and skin tones to symbolize unity. I also drew the African American fist larger holding a chain because I feel that African Americans have had a bigger struggle wen it comes to this issue and they have also broken through a lot of barriers which represents the chain. I used markers and colored pencils on the fist. I painted the back round with acrylic paint and a little water. I used gold leaf on the chains to help them stand out. I finally used paint pens to draw the stars in the back round.
