SOUTHERN FOLK POTTERY JOEY BRACKNER, ALABAMA CENTER FOR TRADITIONAL CULTURE
Joey Brackner is the curator of the Alabama Folk Pottery exhibit and will give a lecture regarding the display Tuesday February 12, 2008.
In addition to the JCS Museum’s opportunity to serve as the Alabama Folk Pottery exhibition’s final venue, Auburn University is pleased to welcome Joey Brackner to lecture on the display and his book also entitled Alabama Folk Pottery.
Alabama Folk Pottery is guest curated by Brackner, Director of the Alabama Center for Traditional Culture, a division of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the exhibition features examples of the tradition of pottery in the state dating back over 200 years.
Brackner’s book is a culmination of over 20 years of research on the subject. It was published in 2006 by the University of Alabama Press.
Brackner has also been involved in numerous projects for the Alabama State Council on the Arts including co-production of Unbroken Tradition, a film documentary on Alabama folk potter, Jerry Brown; and editorship of Tributaries, the Journal of the Alabama Folklife Association. He is also the Folklife section editor for the upcoming, online Encyclopedia of Alabama.
