Saturday Art Club encourages students’ imagination at Jule Collins Smith Museum
AUBURN, Ala.-- Saturday Art Club continues this fall for students ages 8-12, providing students with the opportunity to explore their artistic abilities. Saturday Art Club will be held on October 11 and November 8 from 10-11 AM at the Jule Collins Smith Museum. It is free and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child.
Students are sure to enjoy this exploration of materials and projects based on works in the collection. They will spend 15 to 20 minutes observing the artwork, while the remaining time is used for creating projects based on the students’ observations. Saturday Art Club provides the opportunity to interact with an educator and an artist to approach challenges that art presents. Students will be able to focus on their drawing skills incorporating techniques and approaches that artist’s use. This is an excellent way for youth to express themselves artistically.

Open since 2003, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University is Alabama’s only university art museum. Serving as the gateway into Auburn University, the museum is home to many pieces of culturally significant art. The collection includes more than 100 Audubon prints, a rare group of more than 40 Tibetan bronzes dating back from the 14th century and works by important American artists, such as Arthur Dove, Georgia O’Keeffe and Lyonel Feininger. The museum rotunda hangs a three-tiered, hand-blown glass chandelier created especially for the museum by internationally-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. The beauty continues onto the grounds of the museum with fifteen acres of gardens, walking paths and water features, complete with an eleven and a half foot tall brass sculpture, Spinoff, created by Auburn alumna Jean Woodham.
