JCSM Presents Audubon’s Birds of America Gallery Talk

AUBURN, Ala. (Oct. 13, 2008)—The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art will host a free gallery talk on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at noon discussing the current exhibition of prints in the Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Galleries. This permanent collection includes nearly 100 prints from the first edition of John James Audubon’s monumental Birds of America, a set of four large folios published between 1827 and 1838.

The talk will be given by Auburn University senior history student Katie Hanson, whose studies concentrate on art history and visual culture. Hanson is currently partaking in an academic internship at JCSM and has curated the current Audubon exhibition around a central theme of taxonomy and nomenclature. She has also written and recorded an audio tour providing museum guests with the calls of the birds represented in the Audubon prints on display.

The gallery talk will take place in the Audubon galleries and will last thirty minutes. It is free and open to the public.
