Local Artists Sell Wares, Unique Gifts at JCSM

AUBURN, Al. — The Museum Shop at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art will host the Second Annual Decorative Arts Sale. The event will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the JCSM.

The 2008 event included over a dozen vendors and more than 400 visitors. This year’s sale features more than 25 artists selling jewelry, glass wares, fabric art, woodwork, pottery and more. Artists from all over the community will participate, including a few Auburn University students and faculty members.

Some of the artists include Terry Rodrigues, a mixed media artist, Emma Keller, an Auburn University student who designs hand-crafted jewelry, Mary Stevens, a fabric artist who hand-dyes scarves and Po Weise, a pottery designer and instructor.

The sale will also be an opportunity for visitors to see the museum, as it will be open to the public for free all day. Admission is normally $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and free to all students and Auburn University faculty and staff.

“Auburn has a vibrant art community, and this is a great way to show how many talented artists we have,” said Carol Robicheaux, the Museum Gift Shop manager. Robicheaux wants to encourage the community to support local artists. “This is a perfect opportunity for local artists to sell their wares,” she said. “The shop can’t stock everything, but we can provide a forum for them.”
