Classical Guitarist Performs at JCSM
Classical guitarist Richard Todd will perform at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, $10 for non-members and $5 for members. This event is co-sponsored with the Chattahoochee Valley Guitar Society.
Todd performs throughout the United States and abroad. He has been a featured artist for several NPR affiliates and has made television appearances in Italy. He has also been a member of multiple guitar music festivals around the world.
Kristian Anderson writes in Soundboard Magazine about Todd’s performance in one of these festivals. “In my opinion, the true hidden gem at this year’s festival was without question Richard Todd, who gave one of the most understated and subtly brilliant performances this side of Robert Barto,” Anderson said. “His Sarabande was especially nuanced and showcased everything I long for in a guitar performance: rich tone, effortless phrasing and a masterful use of silence.”
Todd, who was born in Nashville, Tenn., currently teaches at Tennessee State University and serves as TSU’s Director of Classical Guitar Seminar. He has earned multiple awards throughout his career, including first place in both the Music Teachers’ National Association Competition and the National Federation of Music Clubs Competition.
He was awarded several scholarships in his formative years of training and completed his doctorate degree in Musical Arts at the University of North Texas.
