Collector to Speak at JCSM

AUBURN, Ala.- Auburn University Alumnus William Wiese will speak about his collection of 19th-Century photographs Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Selected photographs from Wiese’s collection in the exhibition, Uniform Proof : 19th-Century Photography in the Collection of William Wiese, are on display in the Chi Omega- Hargis Gallery until April 4, 2009.

The exhibition presents various Victorian-era European and American photographs of subjects in military regalia, accompanied by illustrated photo mounts, and decorative albums, exemplifying the 19th-century passion for investigation, collection, categorization, and aestheticism. The exhibition highlights images of children and women in uniform.
