Well-known stories from the Bible, together with more esoteric scriptural passages, are the primary subjects for many of these artists who have been called to witness their faith through art. Mary Proctor signed her work with the moniker, “missionary,” while Myrtice West was “called to paint Revelations” chapter by chapter. Noah’s Ark with its animals “two by two,” Adam and Eve complete with a fruit tree and snake, and the Rapture in various versions but always with angels are just some of the themes drawn, stitched and glued.
