SUMMARY:Self-Care Saturdays: Sound Bath
DESCRIPTION:In response to The Jule’s fall exhibition theme of “work\,” join us in the galleries to do some inner work through a sound bath facilitated by local sound bath practitioner\, Susan Steele. Clearing Chakras Through Sound is an in-person sound immersion designed to relieve stress\, reduce pain\, and strengthen your mind-body connection. Susan has utilized the power of sound and music throughout her life\, from playing piano and the clarinet to completing music theory and composition coursework at the University of South Carolina. She is professionally trained in the practical application and science of sound healing therapy through SoundEmbrace and has over 30 years of experience in healthcare and corporate consulting. \nPLEASE NOTE: This is not recommended for those in their first trimester of pregnancy\, those who currently have thrombosis\, Parkinson’s\, hypotension\, DBS device\, epileptic seizures\, severe depression/anxiety\, or sensory sensitivity. Limited mats are available. You may bring your own mats and/or blankets as needed. If you need accommodations or have questions\, please email randi.evans@auburn.edu.

SUMMARY:Common Grounds: Philosophy Club and Radical Naturalism
DESCRIPTION:In response to The Jule’s exhibition Radical Naturalism: Daniel Newman\, the Auburn Philosophy Club will consider the puzzling questions raised when artists collaborate with animals. Are there any constraints on who or what is viewed as an artist? Can non-human animals create art? What about machines? And can anything other than people appreciate art? Join the Philosophy Club as they consider how this exhibition challenges us to consider the nature of art\, art appreciation\, and the (ethical) relationship between humans and non-human animals.

SUMMARY:Sew Their Names: Drop-In Quilting & Conversation
DESCRIPTION:To honor the erased and forgotten lives of enslaved persons in Alabama\, join the Mt. Willing Quilters of Lowndes County Community Life Center to help stitch a commemorative name as part of their project\, Sew Their Names. Participants may sew either the names discovered in the Samford archives\, or those of other enslaved persons connected with their own families—both the enslaved ancestors of members of the Black descendant community and\, for descendants of slaveholders\, persons whom their families enslaved. Participants may bring fabric with them that has personal significance\, or use the fabric provided by the quilters. No previous embroidery or quilting experience is needed. If participants choose to donate the name blocks they embroider\, these may be included in future Sew Their Names quilts.
