Singing and playing violin have provided opportunities to study how people across the globe are connected and moved by music. In 2018 and 2019\, she spent nine months studying traditional music in Turkey\, Greece and Israel. Today she performs various genres of music\, from far and near\, to help soothe people and offer them a positive human connection.

SUMMARY:Common Grounds: Opelika Auburn Film Art Collective
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by The Jule’s exhibition theme of “work\,” Opelika Film Arts Collective presents the 1936 Charlie Chaplin film Modern Times. \n \nFrom The Criterion Collection: Modern Times\, Charlie Chaplin’s last outing as the Little Tramp\, puts the iconic character to work as a giddily inept factory employee who becomes smitten with a gorgeous gamine (Paulette Goddard). With its barrage of unforgettable gags and sly commentary on class struggle during the Great Depression\, Modern Times—though made almost a decade into the talkie era and containing moments of sound (even song!)—is a timeless showcase of Chaplin’s untouchable genius as a director of silent comedy. 87 minutes.

Born in Milan and raised in Berlin\, she holds a B.A. with Honors in Visual Studies from Harvard University and currently divides her time between New York and Berlin. \nLibeskind’s work is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach that interrogates the intersections of history\, identity\, and gender. Through a fusion of personal and public narratives\, her art examines themes of re-appropriation and reproduction\, often employing a visual language that is both critical and materially rich. \nWith a background in opera\, Libeskind brings a strong performative element to her work\, emphasizing the immediacy of artistic engagement. Her practice is informed by a deep engagement with contemporary culture and a commitment to exploring the complexities of the human experience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Explore our fall exhibitions that examine the theme of work (hard work)\, play lawn games and enjoy music with your friends\, and grab a bite to eat at a food truck. Come watch acclaimed vogue dancer Jeter (of HBO’s Legendary) and other dancers from the House of Gucci “werk” in a pop-up performance between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. And be an artist by participating in a community mural styled after our John Augustus Walker exhibition! \nGet your spirit gear for the September 7 whiteout game against Cal! The first 200 attendees will receive a limited-edition WDE t-shirt featuring art by Andy Warhol. \nRSVP now – food and refreshments will be available while supplies last. \nTiger Transit (Purple Line) will run from the Melton Student Center transit hub to The Jule from 6:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.\, so transportation doesn’t have to be a barrier. Follow @AuburnUPC on Instagram and Facebook for more information and fun event photos! We hope to create an environment where all individuals can participate in Student Involvement sponsored programs and events. If you require an accommodation to participate in this event\, please contact UPC in advance at 334-844-4788 or upc@auburn.edu. \nFollow @thejulemuseum on Instagram for more information.

SUMMARY:Common Grounds: Alt-Text in Art
DESCRIPTION:When you visit The Jule’s website\, you are likely able to see\, analyze and emotionally react to pieces in the museum’s collection – but how might you describe a piece of art (or even the act of close looking) to someone else to give them the same experience? \nAlt-text\, or alternative text\, is a written description of a piece of artwork\, providing visually impaired audiences with descriptive aids to better experience art on a digital platform and allowing visitors of all abilities to fully engage with the collection and exhibitions. \nJoin our educators and student guides to learn about the importance of alt-text and how we implement it in a museum context to create greater accessibility. And afterward\, create your own alt-text for selected works in our galleries and share them with others.

One of the most iconic and recognizable athletic shoes in contemporary culture\, this specific model catapulted into popularity in 1990. That same year\, more than 80\,000 pairs of Nike brand shoes and work boots fell into the Pacific Ocean during a storm en route to the U.S. from South Korea\, prompting Dr. Curtis Ebbesmeyer’s groundbreaking study of maritime currents. Using unique serial numbers on each sneaker\, he and his researchers gathered data from beachcombers worldwide who found the shoes washed ashore.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The environments he creates with human and plant life subjects convey a shared space\, not a shared experience. Brisco’s selection of companion Audubon etchings addresses time’s fluidity – the effect over the years on an art object and our understanding of the 19th-century artist.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
