Please join us for our Community Films and Conversations series featuring the public screening of the documentary, “Prince Among Slaves” and talk by Imam Emeritus, Plemont T. El-Amin.

 Plemon T. El-Amin is the Imam Emeritus of the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam, one of the most progressive Mosques in the United States. He is the former director of Atlanta’s Clara Mohammed Elementary School and W. Deen Mohammed High School. Working as a close aide and supporter of the late leader, Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, Imam El-Amin has traveled the nation and the world representing the concerns and interests of Muslim Americans.

Imam El-Amin is the co-founder and director of World Pilgrims, an interfaith organization that engages people of various faith identities with one another through international travel, dialogue, and interaction. World Pilgrims has taken over 500 Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others, into the diverse cultural and religious environs of Turkey, Spain, Morocco, Greece, Jordan, Egypt, Guatemala, Canada, and Jerusalem, and brought them back to Atlanta as friends and interfaith cohorts.

He has served on various religious and civic councils, including the boards of the Faith Alliance of Metropolitan Atlanta, the Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters, the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority, and the Interfaith Children’s Movement. Presently, Imam El-Amin is active on the Boards of Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Interfaith Community Initiatives, Truly Living Well Organic Garden, Atlanta Masjid Majlis, Elijah Interfaith Institute, Islamic Speakers Bureau, and the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council.

Imam Plemon T. El-Amin performed the greater Pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca in 1978 and in 2006 with his wife, Cassandra Scott El-Amin. He attended Atlanta’s Booker T. Washington High School and is a graduate of Harvard University.

 

Community Films and Conversations is an annual series that brings together diverse groups from the surrounding community to conversations and greater understanding.
