Educated as architect in Germany, I moved to New York in 2000. My work fluctuates between architecture and a wide range of artistic media, with a particular focus on installations in the public sphere. Over the past two years, I have been engaged with a body of work under the title basics, which explores an abstract notion of form, space, and utility. I intend for the work to be experienced both as abstract sculpture and as a usable interactive spatial environment. Initially conceived as part of a larger installation for the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, Romania, the series of work has since had a number of iterations throughout the U.S. Basics aims to contribute to questions of monumentality and temporality in contemporary public art.
