Unveiled! offers a rare opportunity to experience objects from the university art collection that have rarely or never been exhibited before at The Jule. Artists hail from around the globe and close to home. Their works are also held by the most esteemed institutions in the country: the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the United States Capitol and more. Some artists are self-taught, while others studied in Paris, Philadelphia and Berlin.
Many of the paintings, etchings, prints and collages are hung in salon style. Displaying art this way originated in the 17th century with the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, which immersed Parisians in a crowd of paintings, presenting free opportunities to see as much as possible at one time. The questions and conversations born of salons led to enlightenment, revolution and liberty. This type of display provides new opportunities for complementary and contrasting placement in the pursuit of beauty and knowledge. Delight in the variety. Explore differences and similarities.
