Auburn University expanded its footprint and opened its doors to a new facility in Huntsville on Tuesday, Oct. 25, with the grand-opening celebration of the Research and Innovation Campus. The facility features art objects from Auburn’s Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art.
The Kinsey African American Art and History Collection celebrates African American achievements dating back to 1595. The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University is the first venue in Alabama to present The Kinsey African American Art and History Collection.
In this month’s installment of The Jule Museum Podcast, Chief Operating Officer of The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection, Khalil Kinsey, unveils the family behind the collection and emphasizes its educational importance to the future of American society.

Through a major gift to Auburn University, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University has established the Martin Moss Freeman ’77 Fund for Excellence in memory of Shirley and Dr. Alfred Freeman.

The Jule is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, including home football game weekends. In addition to engaging exhibitions, shop for unique Auburn-themed gifts in The Museum Store, and stop in for treats by the grazer co + coffee in The Museum Cafe.

Imani Poole talks about her work as a student in Sneakerheads, a Spring 2022 class at Auburn University, with Charlie Lesh, Associate Professor of English at Auburn. Students in the Sneakerheads course visited the museum to consider sneaker objects made by artist Andy Yoder for his exhibition Overboard.
A new exhibition titled “Andy Yoder: Overboard,” featuring more than 250 sculptural sneakers — constructed from recycled packing from well-known brands such as Lego, Barbie, Apple and even Auburn University — will be on view at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art from Tuesday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, April 1, 2023.
